CHILDCARE
Don't you wish that children came into this world
self-sufficient. Wouldn't it be nice if that cute little bugger would
change his/her own dirty diaper, get up in the middle of the night to
fix his/her own bottle, learn everything he/she needs to know by
watching Saturday morning cartoons? Wouldn't it be nice if the pain of
having children stopped in the delivery room?
Well, it's not going to happen. You, for whatever
reason -- too much booze, too much passion, too much inattention to
detail -- brought that beautiful, stubborn, persistent, aggravating
little person into the world. Now everyone -- your mother, your
mother-in-law, your spouse, the neighbors -- expects you to turn
"it"
into a well-adjusted child who gets along well with his/her peer and
performs in the top 10 percentile of his/her class. Not only do they
expect you to accomplish that once, they expect you to keep doing it
for well over twenty years. They expect you to create a person who will go on
to achieve great things in the world when he/she becomes an adult. And
if you don't do the job right, everyone -- your mother, your mother-in-law, your
spouse, the neighbors, the teachers, the community at large, and that
child that you devoted so much care and nurturing to -- will blame you
for his/her every failure. That's what you signed on for when you earned
(or accidentally acquired) your motherhood badge.
(Bet you wish now that you hadn't said "yes" to that
handsome dude!)
Yes, you got yourself into this mess, but we're
willing to help you try to figure out how to do all that is expected
of you. Not alone, mind you, but with the help of the wisdom of the
world wide web. Follow these links and see if you don't feel better
about your motherhood skills:
